ok... here we go again with the wierd thing in my tank... lol so i have this wierd green bubbly thing i thought was some sort of algae on my rock but i touched it and it was really hard... could it be some sort of coral? or can algae be hard like that... ill try to get pics up but i cant really until i get my computer back from the shop. ill see if i can google for some pics... thanks

get a pic but ill bet 10 to 1 that its bubble algae get it out without popping it cause it will grow on what ever it lands on

I had a bunch of them in my salt tank. It came attached to some live rock. One of my fish decided to make a meal of all of them one day......:(

Actually, I think there might be a few that made it. Lemme take a look. I'll snag some pics if there are any.

Yup. Found a few. Is this what you're talking about?

Here is a little info on them.

Looks to be a few different types of bubble algae.

Valonia macrophysa - smaller clustered elongated bubbles
Boergesenia - clustered, though less dense in numbers and elongated bubble shapes
Ventricaria ventricosa - can get quite large (around and inch) and grows in clusters and in singles
Dictosphaeria ocellata - usually smaller grouping slimey looking bubbles, can be a lighter shade of green
Dictosphaeria cavernosa - encrusting like growth forms with pitted looking bubbles

Sorry about the thread necromancy but what happens if you pop it?

i think all the spores go all over and then you have it everywhere... maybe... isnt that like aptasia?

the spores will spread but if you have a good clean up crew they get to it before its a problem
