Now I've never had this problem but my 40 gal is starting to get a orange/yellow cloudy tint. Parameters are fine and haven't changed in a long time.

Before you comment, you have to realize that I have tried many run-of-the-mill things to try and clear it up.

Originally it was planted but a few weeks ago I got rid of them because it was looking crowded and some of the plants weren't doing well. And I have driftwood in there but its been there for far too long to start leeching tannins now.

Everyone inside hasn't been happier so at this point I'm tempted to just leave as is but I don't know.

Yea I already tried. Thanks though. I'm thinking maybe I should just get a new filter. I have two but one of them is the one that came with the tank and it's a little odd looking. Maybe its just not collecting anymore.

I'm more temped to think algae... you removed the plants that were taking up excess nutrients and your filters couldn't pick up the slack quick enough.

What's the bio-load?

What's the tanks chemistry?

Lighting & schedule?

What filter materials do you use?

Ive heard some driftwood will always release tannins.

but it wasnt leaking the tannins before! so it lasts a year or so maybe more idk the time and then it all of a sudden starts leaking tannin that doesnt make sense! unless the plants were feeding off the tannins and he didnt kno that it was leaking them! so its probably not tannins!

i think algae to is a good bet, or some other oraganism on those lines! so some big water changes done regularly and a UV sterilizer should definetly help!
