So FINALLY i have a so far sucessful batch of FH fry(parents both low grade RD, nothing special) but this is my 1st good batch out of 4 trys and 2 miss's. So i got my wigglers out of the plate this morning and into thier own 10 gall for now, what im wondering is how long till they lose the sack and be free swiming? And why does it look like their getting tangled up with eachother on the floor of the tank, not all of um but thier are 3 groups of about 8 wigglers stuck to eachother? Is that normal? Thanks for info!

It will take around 3 days, depending on the temperature of the tank to be free swimming.. I start my FH fry on Hikari First bites when they're that small and move onto crushed pellets whenever they're a bit bigger.

If they're bunched together than they shouldn't be "tangled" up in each other. Just very close together.

Congrats on your first successful spawn.

Thanks, and thanks for the info..... Its wierd i started to look they are tangled in what looks like little strands of lint?????? I was trying to help them by untangling um but i stopped because i dont want to hurt um, i figure in the next day or two that they will jus pull out of it, we'll see though, ill just keep chekin on them... This could be due to no lid on tank maybe sumthing floated in thier and tangled the wigglers?.?.

I did have a problem moving fry to a 10gallon once. I didn't clean the tank thoroughly enough and some lint and dirt was in there and the fry got trapped and died. If this is what you're experiencing, do not touch the fry with your fingers. Try to get a little pipette and try to blow the fry away from the lint as gently as possible or try to remove the lint/debris itself. Be extremely gentle, during the wriggler stage imo, is their weakest stage in life.

So yesterday when i got back from picking up my fish at lfs i came home and they were all stuck again, so i hit them with the air from the sponge filter tube and blew them apart and AGAIN it appears to be pieces of lint or something stringy, i pulled the fry out off the 10 gall and removed stuff with tweezers, let tank settle then vac. It, then put fry back. Everything was fine, untill today, i look and AGAIN they are all bunched up and it looks like thier stuck to eachother. They are all still alive and wiggling so now im done messing with um, im hoping that in another day when they can swim that theyll just pull of eachother and go.

You worry too much. Let them be, don't mess with them. Don't even do water change until they are at least 0.5 inch or so. Slightest shock of the water change will kill them shortly. HOB filter with a sponge covering the intake or something would be a good idea. Can also swap out carbons back and forth to improve water quality until further growth on the frys.
They will be free swimming when you see them free swimming. I'd advise to feed them frozen baby brine, live baby brine if you have the time to hatch them yourselves. Some frys die off when feeding hikari first bite because it's not something that they find appeasing in their mouth...

Brine shrimp = horrible nutritional value.. Fry die regardless of what they're fed when they're free swimming. I didn't lose any fry in my spawns until they got around half an inch.. and I used Hikari First Bites for all of them. Plus it's up to the OP on what he decides to do.

My fry have been swimming and eating hikari first bites for about a week and a half now and are looking pretty bulky for how small they are, what im wondering is when should i switch from first bites to something else, and what should i feed um, i was thinking crushed flakes and crushed grand sumo red pellets???

I moved mine to crushed flakes after that, they will also nibble at sinking pellets but you have to watch to make sure the pellet doesn't foul the water. There's a gel food I've been looking at too, it looks pretty nice for raising fry.

Crushing pellets works.. Wouldn't use GS but if you want to its your choice. In most pellet containers like NLS, theres always a powder like residue on the bottom, that can be used very well.
