My F1 midas and F1 xiloaensis managed to spawn without me noticing untill today when i went to feed them and the female midas was guarding wigglers.....i was wondering why she grew a nuchual hump? seems like she only gets a nuchual hump before spawning....... im still not sure what the fry will look like? Hopefully I will get a creamsicle looking hybrid...

Wow. Congratulations! Will you rear them separately or let the parents do the work?

Awesome congrats bro:) keep us updated as I would like to see what they look like too:)

Great! That didn't take long at all. I agree with everyone else, keep us updated so we can see how the fry turn out. You better get another tank cycled now, you're gonna need it!

thanks everyone i am also intersted to see how they turn out.....how long should it be before they start swiming its been 2 days since they hatched...... and at what time should i separate them from the parents?

Congrats on the spawn. They should go free swimming about 5 days after hatching. You can keep them with the parents until they are ready to spawn again, you can keep them beyond that if you want depending on the parents but the first batch will eat most of the second. Once they go free swimming you could feed them BBS and/or first bites, I use frozen BBS and first bites and and feed three to four times a day. You'll also notice them grazing on the surface algea all over the tank. Make sure you cover the filter intakes with a sponge or piece of fine mesh, filter bag or nylon stocking. When your ready to distribute them you tell people they are a cross, no more so than what you get from Petsmart but still not pure. They should look nice, good luck the first spawn is always exciting have fun.

Well since you posted this in the cichlid folder, hopefully you'll do the right thing and end up feeding these guys to something. If you plan on keeping them, hopefully one of the mods will move it to the correct folder.

I don't necessarily feel that the fry should be destroyed or used as feeders. I think the fry can be given to responsible keepers that will not distribute or breed them under false names. I know that everyone feels differently about hybrids, so I'm not arguing that point. But some people would be interested in having these like many other hybrids. The problems come when hybrids dispersed under the wrong names pollute pure lines that other keepers are trying to keep. Just be responsible.

I agree... I will probably end up keeping a few and the rest will be used as feeders as this was totally unexpected....
