A few monthes ago I went to Nayarit for some beani, but they had been wiped out from the lake by bass, and being there for only 2 days, not enough time to visit any rivers. Anyway, just returned last night from Mazatlan Mexico, where I came from with about 40 pcs of wild Beani from the river "Rio Baluarte" which is about 20-30 minutes South of Rio Presidio. They are about 2.5-3" a few 3.5" but I am keeping those, only about 7 pcs. It has been raining hard, and rivers were huge and with no visibility, but after a few hours of casting I kept every piece that was hauled out. With the coditions being bad, there was no picking and choosing, and with my last experiance, I was counting my blessings with just finding any. Apperntly still abundent, but in decline, due to the huge boom in Tilapia, they were in every cast, some about 12"!!! They out numbered the beani from our catch about 20 to 1. This fiish is worth conserving in our tanks. They are not cheap but neither was the trip and all the pay offs in Mexico, hence their price. Will post pics later.

Thanks! The Tilapia were the 12 inchers, and the Tilapia outnumbered the Beani 20 to 1, but we kept at it all day, and it was rewarding. Polomax, is supposed to come over to my house for some, so he will be able to vauch for how nice they are. Nice snake skin patterns and blood red eyes! They are under Clout medication and are looking great this morning. I got in after 11:00 pm last night and I live about 5 min. from LAX, so I was acclimating right after landing and getting throuigh customs. I drippd them for about 1 and a half hours, so I was up very late.

Too friggin sweet, would love to see pic's when you can post them.

You killed all the tilapias you caught right? Can't wait for pictures.

Maybe they ate'em? heh

As much as I would have loved to have killed the Tilapia, the locals need them for food, and they were with me (locals), so killing the Tilapia in front of them would have caused some problems. Besides it seems like killing them would be useless at this point. Reminds me of my dad when I was kid. He would spend hours killing flies, saying he wouyld put a dent in their numbers...I don't think so. See my post in the market place for prices!

Joe, it was a pleasure having spoken with you. Just the brief information you told about your travels and expedition to the river had my complete attention! I'd definately be interested in being your "sidekick" on your next trip if you need a mule to carry the coolers! :grinno:

Thanks again and I'll see you on Wednesday!
