Is there an easy way to tell the difference between wild caught fish and domestic fish? Or is this to dependent to the species you are looking at? Also Im interested in cichlids SA/CA specifically.

IMO dependent on species and not really noticable til adult coloration. Also not really noticable to the lay-man who doesn't know/have seen alot of examples of that species.

Only ca/sa cichlid one that's really easy is RD because of the lips.

They both will have better coloring/patterns when coloring up to adults but unless you own both wild and captive bred you probably wouldn't notice the difference. If you're getting these from rapps you can trust him, his wilds are wild.

Thats whos i was looking at getting some threw Just trying to decide what to get since i have an empty tank right now and I am looking to get a 300+ gallon tank.

Rapps has a Wild pair of Dovii for $275 right now....I beleive their sizes are 11-12 inches....Better catch them before my next pay day:naughty:....

As for the differences between wild and captive, the difference is found in their genes...For breeders, wild caught specimen are a must....To the novice, it is simply bragging rights, "OOooo..I have a wild Oscar, in my 20g....Oooooo..."The one attitude difference I see is between wild and captive piranha...The captives take to commercially prepared food like there is no tomorrow, which is good, there is less stress on figuring out what to feed them...On the other hand, like wild snakes, I experienced feeding problems with both young and adult wild pygos, sometimes lasting for a month....

Thats exactly what i was looking at but unfortunately I dont have the proper tank for those fish. I was actually looking at the large Managuense that are 7-8 inches. And the Wild red devil that is 8-9 inches seperate tanks of course. Well i get payed tomorrow but i gotta pay bills and then get my brakes done but if i have enough money left after thats done ill order these fish
