A few weeks ago I picked up some gambusia (mosquito fish) in an irrigation canal. Ive kept about 50 of tgem in a 20 gal for 2 weeks doing 50% water changes every couple of days. I dropped a few in with my 4 in. bichir this afternoon. He was on them within seconds, but as he was going in for his first strike, he started seizing and twitching irradically. I took out the feeders and did a 75% water change, but then had to go to work. After my shift I checked on it, and its still sluggish and behaving abnormally, but seems to be doing better. My main question is, is there a way to ensure that the fish will be safe to eat, or should I just wait for the next generation to pop up? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster feeding your fish with fish from a canal. The fact is they could be carrying anything.
