i was talking to mandm614 about ordering some wild caught festaes from cichlidoftheamericas.com and he told me to put epsom salt in the water to help cure the fish of any internal parasites. i was wondering if any one has heard or done this before. also is there any special epsom salt i need to get or can i use any kind i can buy in a supermarket?

use api aquarium salt or pure solar salt w/o any additives. I treat all my wc fish with prazipro and metrionidazole as well.

Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is not the same as "salt" (sodium chloride).

OP, Epsom salt in the water will not do a lot for internal parasites, however it DOES work very well if you dissolve it in a bit of water and soak their food in it. You can find a very good write up on the subject by member RD. if you search a bit.

i was thinking about the aquarium salt and will it have the same effect. what does prazipro and metrionidazole do ?

i've been trying to find some of those posts but i couldnt find any that's why i psted this.

Search IPS meds and the first hit should be a thread from Fat Homer, go into that theres a link to RD's epsom salt stuff its super informative

Maybe I should try this. I have what I think are parasires on a pleco i got 2 weeks ago, and my fish seem to scratch themselves now
