So I just got back from fishing corona lake and caught a largemouth bass at about 8 inches. Can I put him in the tank with my other fish and so on. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated
i wouldnt mix him...because he may be carrying bacteria or disease that your tank raised fish can't fight off.....plus he is probably SUPER aggressive with him being WILD....not sure what kinda of setup you have but i was gonig to buy a 2 inch LMB from a local shop to add in my SA/CA setup and the shop ownwer advised not to because of water temp. and hardness
A largemouth by itself needs AT LEAST a 6'x2' tank, kept between 60-75 degrees (ideal temp, slightly cooler is ok though) If you cannot provide something that size or larger, then dont even consider keeping it
are they good feeders?
my toadfish was out of feeders so had some tiny bluegills, sunfish, minnows and a few bass (theres some plankton in our pond and the fish don't seem to live to be adults its blocking the seaweed so its all dying and the fish don't like that) so i kept them for awhile for feeders made sure they had no parasites (they didn't) so it was all good he really perfered these fish over the goldies. should i just buy some live bait and treat them for parasites and bacteria then feed them to him? i heard that goldfish have a vitamin d deffincy
If your interested in keeping your local wild species of fishes you could set up a separate tank with them so you don't kill your other fish. Doing so you would probably be in possession of illegal/undersized fish. Most fish small enough for your tank would fit into that category. Check your local fish and game laws.
There are places where you can buy from that sell farm raised fish instead of messing with the local wildlife. Never release any tank raised fishes in the wild. http://www.aquaculturestore.com/fwverts.html
he actually was getting punked by my mono haha ill probably see if anyone wants to take him off my hands...the lake i fish at only stocks farm raised fish so it's not like they're entirely "wild" im going to be getting an RTG soon so does anyone know of anyone wanting a LM bass>?
