Ok, i need to settle this once and for all. Many individuals suggest that it is bad to feed wild caught food to fish in captive. They say that this is due to the amount of chemicals and polution that may be toxic to our aquarium fish. Does anyone know the exact truth to this...I only ask due to the fact that there is a very large wood frog population near my cottage, and i would like to utalize this by feeding them to my fahaka puffer every once and a while:naughty:

The pollutants in the wild are usually highly diluted. I would rather feed minnows from a local lake than some from a bait store!

true true, i'll catch anything and let my fishes eat. there are massive amounts of minnows and small edible fishes where i come from. and they are doing just fine

It depends on your local conditions,I use wild caught food here in upstate ny.
When I lived on LI some ponds were posted with warnings not to consume the fish due to high levels of pollutants.I wouldnt feed from areas like that.I was on a delivery job in nj years ago and there were guys in spacesuits digging flourecent green samples out of the parking lot,If I lived near there I wouldnt use wild caught food either.
Hudson valley with GE pcb contamination, staten island dump, same story.

Like I said look into local conditions.

:iagree: , Tho you maybe one of the lucky ones...frogs are supposed to be a very fragile part of the eco-system so they may be healthy.

Check with your local aqrocultural extension agent and fish & wildlife commision before you start feeding and before you ask check to see if you need a license to hunt them or if they're protected.

Let us know how it turns out, Maybe you could do a thread on catching MONSTER food...
