I just ordered a piece of wild caught Congicus.
What should be the quarantine procedure for wild caught specimen? I've been told that they uslaly bring along some sickness/parasite?

Any specific treatment i should do ?
Also what do i look for in wild caught Congicus?
should i look at the patterns? etc?

You can try PraziPro to get rid of any unwanted parasites. Separated the fish for 2 weeks or more depend on the condition. If the bichir is very skinny, then it probably carry some parasite but if it looks healthy and eating fine there should be no problem.

Anchor worm is the big thing and almost every wild caught Polly including rope fish that I have bought had this issue. It could be just bad luck on my part but it's easy to get rid of. Most LFS have parasite meds and the good old hospital tanks. The smaller the tank the less meds needed.

In my experience, practically all WC Bichirs tend to carry Macrogyrodactylus polypteri worms.

I have a 75 gallon tank that is my hospital tank. Every time I get a new fish, I put it in there for a couple of weeks, keep an eye on it before moving on to it's eventual home after medicating it if needed.

As a rule for me, EVERY WC Bichir I get goes in there and is medicated straight away, even without signs of parasites. I use a medicine called "Refish" that is known as magic powder here in Japan as it seems to fix all parasites without killing filter BB, and the fish never seem to be stressed out by it.
Best of all though is it is cheap, and one very small bottle can treat 1000's of gallons!
It is VERY effective against Macrogyrodactylus polypteri.

I agree with this. I was thinking about just treating straight away and now after this thread I will start doing this for all my new Bichirs

thanks :) Will treat my Congicus once i get him, though was told byu the importer that they will be treating the fish in the holding tanks and also condition them first before releasing them.
