"Wild" Caught Texas Cichlid.

This is the Texas cichlid i caught 2 weeks ago at a local pond. Can anyone tell if its a male or female? TIA

Im thinking he thinks LA stands for los angeles?
Anyway i would guess that would be a male carpintis. females tend to have a black splotch on the top dorsal
 
i used to catch those down in san antonio tx back in the day. i think females have black blotchy markings on their dorsal fin
 
My guess would be male, but not 100%.
Post a few more pix once your fish settles in.
 
Took some more today, eats pellets like a pig. here "he" is:

I love the red that goes around the pale blue freckles.
