I saw a thread from Natural_Born_Killer inquireing about texas cichlids and it got my gears turning. So I grabed my fins and snorkel and made the 45 min drive down to a nice section of the Comal River. After floating/snorkeling a way and about 1 1/2 hrs into the trip I came up on a pretty deep part of the river and found a whole colony of Cichlids, the adults were much to wary and fast to catch but I snaged 6 itty bitty guys. I got them home, and tossed them into a 10g. Well after some precautionary treatments and QT time I picked the looker of the bunch and put him in my grow out tank and sold the others to the LFS. This was my first time collecting, and it kinda puts a personal attachment to the fish I must say. However he dosent seem interested in any pellets...blood worms and mushed up bits of krill are the only thing I can get him to eat, but im working on that. Anyhow here are the best pics I could get, hes a fast mover.

dude that is awesome. I have been wanting to make the drive down to try and catch a few of those guys with rod and reel. Keep us posted on how this guy turns out. Hopefully its a male.

how did you catch them ?

Lots of trial and error, I used 2x big nets and I finnaly cornerd some fry against a rock wall, and there were hundreds of lil guys. They were all about or under 1". It was a hell of a work out, and after I got 6 into the cooler I was done lol. Should have brought a casting net.

nice catch! how big were the Biggest ones you seen? Im curious how big they get in the wild

The biggest adult I saw, was a colorful male and I would guess he was about 8" give or take an inch. Looked like he had some bad gill flukes tho :( which prompted the parazi bath this guy got.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, Ill keep a photo log on him and post an update in a few months, hopefully he gets nice and big.:headbang2
