well after typing out my answer to that thread, realised its probably better off in here, as I think that collecting your own, to supporting other wild caught trade is different.
I have a few simple rules really...
If its threatened or I know the population isn't that great or doing well, I won't keep any wild caught specimens at all.
If there are captive bred specimens available, I would buy them every time over a wildcaught animal, just because the massive benefits regarding health as well as supporting captive bred animals over the wild caught trade. If you go over to some of the countries these exotics come from you know full well the animals aren't treated with any respect what so ever in general, and the point it takes for them to get to you they are often mistreated and X number have died in the process of getting just 1 to you.
Leave wild caught to breeders for new bloodlines to create better stock.
If you are looking for one specimen as a pet... forget wild caught, or even farmed animals. When it comes to farms... they are all different...
