Wild caught vs tank raised

I am not speaking from experience as I've never had wild caught fish, but I am just taking away from my friends experience. Wild caugh fish tend to have a more predatory stance. They may be more aggressive and be more of a "skilled fighter" from taking and defending territories from other fishin their home environment. Aquarium fish haven't experienced such things and can be more mellow compared to wild, although it will ALWAYS differ bewtwen individuals. Other physical characteristics will differ in wild fish based on where they live. I have read of red devils having longer snouts in the wild due to their environmental conditions. Other things like color may be more prominant/brilliant in wild fish due to selective breeding and strong genetics. In the wild fish pick their partners, in aquariums a lot of the time the owners do. The wild fish may even be more powerful and territorial than aquarium fish. Hope it helped.

Bottom line is WC fish have superior genetics, not watered down by generations of inbreeding. This translates to appearance (color, etc) and behaviour more typical of the species.

If you're asking specifically how to tell WC from CB fish from that collection point, I'm not sure they have been bred in captivity yet...maybe in Asia. Others around here more into that sort of thing may be able to offer their advice.

If you're reffering to Rio arguaria being captive bred...yes they have been bred in captivity.

To the OP...if you feel the trade is fair then go for it. IMO there is too much bs surrounding "cb" fish and "wc" fish when it comes to cichla. If you trust your source make the trade. IF you feel the trade is fair...go for it. I dont have a problem w/ "cb" fish as long as they are quality.

Agreed with gangster. It all comes down to quality whether they are cb or wc. But generally, wc fish are supposed to have better genetics and color. I'd pick up a quality cb bass anyday. Rio araguaias have been bred only in Asia and are plentiful there. I know that aquascapes has brought in araguaia kelberis in before but I'm not sure if they were cb from asia or wc. In general you won't find cb araguaias here in the states unless someone has imported them from asia. For wc, I believe discus has brought in one of the very first (if not the first) wc araguaia kelberi batches into the states. I hope that this fall they will be available again.

I'm going to trade some fish for some wild caught rio araguaia kelberi bass but I want know what's the difference from wild caught to tank raised?

Are you trading your armatus? I'd say it's an awesome trade so go for it. You don't see wild caught kelberis everyday. Personally, I don't like bahias but that's just me so you are one lucky fellow to own wild caught araguaia kelberis.
