if i were to catch minnows/wild feeders and quarantine them for a month, would they be o.k to use to feed to my fish. what treatments would be recomended for the water.
You could do that but make sure you research the species. Make sure you know what they are, thier population status in your area and the requirements needed to keep them. Make sure you're also aware of the laws in terms of collecting them.
thanks, just brook minnow so it's easy to replicate the brook behind the house. good to here from a ny'er(hopefully an upstater). any suggestions for crayfish?
Never heard of a "brook minnow", if you mean minnows in general then there are lots of species, about 50 or so in NY. Some look very similer so make sure you get their ID down first. We have a few endangered/threatened/special concern species in NY. If you need help post a picture or try to describe them best you can.
As for crayfish, what do you want to know about them?
I did this last year, worked out pretty good, just make sure to acclimate them for a longer period then normally, and i find that they are FAR FAR FAR more disease free then lfs feeders, so quarantining is almost unecessary. Nature does it a lot better then we can.
i was wondering what i'd have to do to crayfish to make sure there "clean". and i just wrote brook minnow, cause there are thousands in the brooks out back. sorry about that.i haven't gone to catch any in there since i was little, i'll have to recheck what kind they are.
