Wild Festae and quality

I was wondering how difficult it is to find wild 2 inch juvenile festae for sale and also is it possible to sex any at that size.
What do you look for in attempting to sex them at that 2 inch size and how do you differentiate them from Mayan cichlids.
Is there a quality difference with Ecuadorian and Peruvian specimans or are they the same fish. I could not find the Festae quality vs trash thread posted a while back...sorry.

I found wild 2 inch festae with lots of distinct blue spangling under the eyes and on the face. The fins are red with blue spangling as well. Is that normal for 2 inch festae to have ?

I guess my main question is if I found true wild festae should i jump on the chance to get 1.

Since I can't seem to get back in the umbee game maybe I can do a festae grow out with my other fish I can't sell.
 
Wild festae are harder to find but not impossible. Jeff Rapps has some F1 festae from 1.5-3" Ecuadorian strain. They are very hard to sex until they get close to 4.5-5" unless your really good at venting. They are also slow growers.
 
Its all based on location. Weather they are from Ecuador or Peru. They all will have different looks and characteristics. I currently have a blueish male that just spawned with my little female. Both are WC. The male turns yellowish with deep red fins when protecting and spawning, the female is bright orange and red.

The blue one in those pics are Greenterra's male and he is in Austrailia:) but I agree with Madness. Everyone has their own preference on Ecuador or Peruvian ans some dont care at all. Bottom line is either way, they're still festae. And there are quality and Non-quality in all festae locations, you just have to pick out the ones you like.And if its your first time with festae then i say heck yeah, grab up what you can find so you can get started:) everyone has to learn somewhere and the best place imo is somewhere cheap;) LOL good luck
 
yup. There R varieties in every location. Quality isn't sorted by location. It is common sense. Do all pretty girls stay in one state? no. And one may like red and another hate red. So it's up to personal taste also.

Yup he's shiny blue. I'll gladly share pics if you want.

If you can get 2 wild festaes, get 2. What the heck since you are there already. You might not find another one later. Make and save the money you spent on it with a little time. It would be worthwhile. Or if you feel bad you can spend that money on a love one instead then sell something of your's to cover the Festae..

Sometimes I feel selfish spending my money on fish instead of buying something for my peeps too :(

They are at a LFS and have been there a month or so with a NOT FOR SALE sticker on the tank. I pleaded with the store owner and he is willing to let me buy 1 before he clears out the tank and take home all the festae to his home tank for growout. He plans on clearing out the tank any day.

They are skittish when you go up to the tank.

My guess is that they are real deal W/C specimans since he is holding them and not selling them at this time.
 
No man u can't just guess..
Maybe he/she wants to grow them big so they can sell them for a better profit. You can't guess they are wilds because they are not for sale. lol

I'm not guessing. The ownwer told me personally that they were wild caught from south america.
