I've always wanted a beautiful female Festae, but have not been successful. First grow out was male, 2nd was female but got its mouth permanently damaged, 3rd was female but with poor coloration and genetically missing pelvic finlets.

Basically, should I pay $8/each for 2" F2 Ecuador or pay $22/each for wild Ecuadors of the same size? Will purchase a group of 6. Is it worth it, as some hobbyist state that one cannot distinguish between a F0 or CB? Many thanks!

Where are you getting them from? I'd say the source makes more of a difference than being F0 or F2 does. If you get them from a reputable source, then F2s can look just as good, if not better, than wild caught juveniles. If you're getting the growouts from an LFS around your area, maybe try ordering from one of the well known keepers on here or someone like Jeff Rapps.

It all depends on the parents as well but more than likely out of a group of wild caughts you're going to get some nice ones.
I personally have contacts and used to breed midas so I know many who always want to deal or trade fish.

Message me your contact information I can give you my contact locally to me. He has very nice ones but not sure if he has any for sale at the moment because they do go fast.

There's staff member here that has a WC female and a CB Male and I can't even tell a difference between them and the other pairs I've seen, but judging from your experience, I would go the extra mile and get the WCs for the extra $$$. In my personal experience, a lot of CBs can be inbred and deformed and screwed up beyond belief.....it happens in the wild, but if it DOES happen in WC individuals, at least you know it's just Nature being Nature, and not something we decided for them........I have owned and am NOT a fan of diluted genes through inbreeding, some fish end up really screwed up, nd are worthless to breed at that point and you will just ended up tired of them being an eye-sore and won't even want them as PETS anymore

Take the same pride in your Festaes as you do in your Polyuranadons :)

The WC that Rapps is selling are excellent!!! I believe that my group of them are female heavy. Some very nice looking Festae and you won't be disappointed!! I do have two pairs that I'm selling but they're not cheap nor an arm or leg for them. You get what you pay for. My stuff is definitely not crap;)
