This wild male Heckel cross is one of my favorite fish. Currently it has taken a shine to a wild female Rio Negro Heckel and it appears that they have bonded. I don't expect to get any eggs from the pair, as female Heckels are just about impossible to get to spawn (only a very few people have done it), but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy watching them interact with each other.

They are really nice looking fish. Too bad the pair wasn't the other way around. Female cross and male Heckel you would have a better shot at fry. You're correct a few people have done it. The ph was rediculus about 4.5 or somthing with RO water. The crosses breed much eaiser but a female Heckel is PITA. I have a group of Heckel I posted pic a few threads down. I love them, good luck with them.

Thanks Tom. I've thought about getting a female Heckel cross to pair up with this male, now that wild Discus season is almost here, but I kind of hate to break up the bond. I saw your thread about your Heckels when you first put it up, gorgeous fish. How are they doing?

They are doing good. I have them in a 90 and have slowly acclamated them to tap water & prime. I still filter through pete but I don't do anything special at water changes. I want to get some Rio Nanay red spotted greens if I can find them. That's my next wish list project which of cours is subject to change without notice....;)

Yeah awesome strain
