Wild ivy

I have some wild ivy don't know the type I just took cuttings from some I found hear in the UK.

I have it stood in a coffee jar full of fish tank water to see if it would grow, although it's not shooting roots it is growing new green leaves, and has been for over a month now although slowly.

My question is if I stand the stem in my HOB filter so non of the plant is accessible to the fish at all will this be safe for the fish. I didn't know of it could cause any problems to my water with it not been an aquatic plant.

Most ivys aren’t recommended. Think others have had just the roots and been fine.

Yeah that's all I plan to do, and I don't plan to have the roots In the main aquarium.

Can’t see an issue with ivy, nor much of a benefit to be fair.

Roots in the water (HOB or aquarium) will be absolutely fine and really beneficial for you water quality. You may find that it actually starves your aquatic live plants of nutrients though. This has been the case with me using devils ivy.

English ivy tends to do great with aquaponics just like devils ivy.
