Any one had fry from a wild morph and a red bay snook before? I have kept both for a while and even kept them in the same tanks before and the Reds never bred with the wild morph. I had spawns of both about 2 years ago that I grew out together and kept 3 of each color to keep. Came home today to a wild colored male paired with a red female from those 6 grow outs and they are about to spawn. Anyone have this happen before and if so what color are the offspring? I'm guessing they will all be orange but am not sure it's worth the time to grow them out to see.

If I remember correctly, wild morph is the ancestral state, and the red morph evolved in rivers with red lily pads? I's possible that all F1s would look wild morph, and F2s will segregate.

You are probably right Peter. The red morph is naturally occurring but to a much smaller degree the the greens. Not sure if that's because they get eaten easier when small or if genetically it is just rarer. I always thought it was odd in the past the my wild morphs never breed with my 3 red bays.

Guess I'm going to have to grow some out and see what happens. There has to be some other people that have done this but there's no info that I can find on them.
