Evening all.

Just been "showing off" my photography skills (read "skills" as "blind luck") in the photo lounge

Either way, the folks who frequent that said section have brought into disrepute the "wild" nature of my "wild green severum" and i got to wondering.

Does anyone know any hard and fast rules to tell if a fish is a true wild specimen? Behaviour, colourings, hardiness etc? obviously an LFS would sell a fish as "wild" to peak interest from people in the know, and i wonder if i've been dooped.

Heres the pic again, cast your expert eyes over this one and let me know your thoughts. be interested in knowing what you all think.

(appologies for re-posting the piccy, but i thought this covered a fair old change of topic)

ive never really been able to tell, once a fish is put into a petshop setting it usually gets like all the others

Beautiful fish. I doubt you will ever know. The LFS will tell you its 'Wild caught' like you said, to make a sale. Only way to know is if they can give you a collectors name and location where the fish was collected (which I would request if I was buying anything wild caught).

I found out a little when i first got them (he killed his "wild" mate when re-housed years ago)

(again, anyone correct me if im wrong on this, im by no means an expert)

He's apparently of the rio negro bloodline (hence the black line down his back)

Only thing that makes me doubt his origin, is A. he does particularlly well in hard water (although is unable to fertalise eggs) B. his colouring seems far too bright.

buy hey ho, hes still a real looker
