Picked up this Kel a few moths ago from kijiji, he was pretty stunted and didn't grow for the longest time. I finally got him onto pellets now and his growth is exploding!!! And he is now around 6-7 inches! His colour is really starting to become nice too. I was just wondering if anyone could tell if he is wild or not? He is my first Cichla so I don't really care too much, Im just enjoying having him in my tank.

Thanks! I'm hoping some more spangles will start to show up. Im not sure if different lighting could improve that. It sure as hell washes out the red on my TATFs tail

You will porbably never know for sure. Just keepi doing what you are and enjoy him.
Looks great!

one way i use to tell if a fish is WC or not is if it consumes pellets or not.
WC = no pellet interest
CB = some pellet interest

of course u can argue that the breeder may have pellet trained the WC fish during holding but thats unlikely as to sustain a business he can't be holding his stock long enough for that to happen.

and of course u can argue that the fish is CB but its natural instincts don't teach it to eat pellets so why say CB = some pellet interest?, thats because when in CB they watch their parents eat pellets and there is basically nothing else in the tank so from young they are "trained" to eat pellets.

well thats my train of taughts i use to decided WC or CB fish in my head, when i buy them from the shops

Thanks for that! Ive never really looked at it that way before. It probably took close to 6 months to break him from blood worms and feeders. Was way harder to break than my ATF, so maybe it is a wild!
