i found a good source for pirahnas...i let down the idea of caribe as they are nowhere to be found this year.and let down piraya as well because of their size.the guy is offering me wild caught redbelly for 40$ each.its expensive,is it worth it???here in the lfs they are sold about 10-15 dollar each.(bred ones)

I've heard that wild reds are more "out going" than the bred ones a bit more aggressive. since I've never personally owned wild reds before I cannot be sure.
don't think it's caribe season yet, will probably have to wait until ~may or june then they should have baby caribes in. if you are buy alot of them then I say check with online vendor, may still be cheaper even plus the shipping compare to buy from your lfs. went to Aquascape on Friday and they have decent amount of wild reds in. call them up.

It is expensive furthermore, how are you supposed to know that the P's the guy is offering you are in fact wild caught?.

Beware dude you can be cheated on!!!!.

There are two ways for you to asure you are in fact getting wilds:

1.- Be sure the guy is selling you the P's is 100% trustworthy.
2.- Go to southamerica and take them out of the river yourself.

The fact of caribes being more agressive than nattereri is not always true, the guy that sold me my reds has both caribes and reds, once he told me:

"You want caribes because ther are supposed to be more agressive than reds but my reds have taken down two caribes so fat... so the conclusion is up to you man...".

what was atracking me is their color and the fact that they supposed to be less shy than regular ones.the guy is trusthworthy,no doubt about it.he try to help as much as he can and he is nice.
gonna check around all the sources i have access to and see what everyone else offer.maybe i go with 4red and 2 superreds
thanks

i tried to get the caribe first but can't have them.have been told that the goverment will not let them get out of the country..did not find any breeder neither.
keep in mind i'm in quebec

Just be patient, right now we are in caribas breeding time so they will be available for june-july maybe august as well just pay attention to what sellers offer in those months i am sure you can find them.

Cheers.

It sucks because caribes won't be in till the end of the summer if that people have too settle for wild reds and super reds and just add to the shoal later that's what ongoing to do. I'm going to order 8 wild reds for my 125 at 2 inch and I will add caribes later

the color doesn't last into adulthood. All pygos get darker with age. As far as the behavior is concerned I would imagine tank raised RBP's would be more outgoing than wild ones. It's up to you, just know that that you could probably buy two RBPs for the cost of one of these wilds.
