Hey guys, I've got a question about collecting wild Texas cichlids. I live about 5 hours from the river they live in and would love to get a pair. Has anyone been there and caught some? What is the best way to find and get them?

i caught a bunch in the san antonio river using small jigs tipped with maggots or waxworms, you just have to sort through the numerous and more aggressive sunfish....

Go to the blue star art complex in San Antonio, along the the back of the building is the river there are Texas cichlids, plecostomus, tilapia, Molly's and my favorite tilapia zilli.....also a bunch of other stuff too...

Awesome! I'm trying to go this summer. I'm starting a breeding project. So far I've got wild salvini and trying to get some good green terrors. I like the true Texas cichlid. Is the river warm or something, because I know here the water gets to the low 50's in the winter.

I believe there are springs in the river where some exotics are able to live......supposedly cyanoguttatus are not native to the San Antonio River but not that far away they are..

I catch them every few months here in Houston.
Right about know is the perfect time to start going after them.
