Anyone know how bettas are farmed?
I went to PetCo to get some frozen fish foods (on sale), and browsed around. Ended up finding a little female betta that I ended up taking home.
I felt sorry for her . . . she was in the back of the rack, in a dusty old cup, and wasn't very colorful. But still kicking and lively, no signs of disease. For 3 dollars, you know, why not? With all the colorful bettas on the rack that people would naturally want more, I was sure this one was condemned to the cup until she died.
Went home and looked up her coloration, from curiosity, and found the attached archive picture. She looks exactly like the female wild type. Exact match.
Anyone know much about how bettas are farmed? Are they still caught from the wild for sale? Wondering how a wild type coloration made it past the sorting and grading and shipping to end up at a PetCo.
