In getting a baby peacock bass (1.5-3")- are there any pros or cons to either having a Wild Caught one, or perhaps one that is captive raised?

Too me the wild caught ones had a nicer sheen to the body, but cost a bit more. Does captive raised mean they were bred in a big man made pond?

I was just wondering as to what everyone's opinion on this matter was? Thanks! :D

i'd go wild just my 0.02

yeah i picked up a little 2 inch baby. Ended up getting a wild one. I have it alone right now and am tempted to get more. Wonder if i should get a captive one and see how they fair or develop comparatively. Would be an interesting project if any. :)

So is what I hear true, that they should be kept in at least a trio? Will adding another p-bass 1-1.5 inches bigger be asking for trouble?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks! :)

Nice. What type did you get?

If you are going to add more, I'd recommend keeping them about the same size, especially when they are still small. As far as whether or not three is better than two, probably. I didn't have any trouble raising the pair that I got when they were about 6", but they had lots of space in my 200. I currently have a couple of growouts that are about 3" and 3.5" and the larger one is a little rough on the smaller one. Having more would probably spread that aggression around a bit more.

I got a little Cichla Monoculus. I think I will try to get him a friend or two around the same size. He ate some frozen bloodworms tonight. Im happy about that. Spit it out a couple of times, but he stomach slowly got bigger and bigger. :)

definitly wild is the way to go... thats if you can get your hands on some.... but speaking in reality... they're BOTH BEAUTIFUL.....

wild cichla all the way.. colors are a million times better and nice body shape

The only pro I can think of to having farm bred is that Ph levels aren't as important as wild.
