I want to get a tank for my room and limited to a 4' tank. Will be looking on CL and all that, 55g are easy to find where as 75gs are few and far between and usually priced insanely high. With that said looking to house the following fish...

4" Female Gold Sev, 4" Female Nic 'macaw', 3" Female Salvini

The Nic and Sev I know will do fine in a 55g as they are almost to their max adult size now. I know sevs can get up to a foot in length but that is typically males and if needed could always put the sev back into the 150g.

i thought that the nic will get a lot bigger(slowly) right? I hear the females usually get around 6-8"? And then your salvini will probaby be pretty aggressive too.

I'd either go for the 75, or maybe a 55 and a 30 long for the salvini.
Haha, or just go ahead and give each fish a male and their own tank!

6" is a good size for a female Nic, males 10" give or take. Sals usually do well in a community as long as they don't have a mate. Once those suckers get breeding you better move them to their own tank - way worse then Cons I've heard (never bred them myself, just heard horror stories).

I would get a 75 gallon but thats just me...

In my opinion, you buy the biggest tank you can afford to buy and that you have space for, under all circumstances.

Well of course, but I can pick up a 55 gallon setup this weekend for under $100, where as I'd be looking for weeks to find a 75g setup for $300. That's why I was seeing what was the general consensus on putting those three fish in a 55g.
