I am currently stocking my 90g and am very interested in bichirs.

Stock list is
1 tiger Oscar
1 redheaded severum
1 tinfoil barb

Eventually will have 1-2 ebjds when they are bigger, and possibly a chocolate cichlid.

Filtration is an aquatop cf500uv. (super overkill)

1. What would be a good choice? I'm looking at the ornate.
2. Will they work with SA stock list?
3. Which is the most active? I want something that does more than hide in a log all day long.
4. Which is the least picky eater?

An ornate will outgrow that tank. Tinfoils are a schooling fish. Smaller upper jaw bichirs could work but in that size tank with that stock list it will eventually be overstocked even without a bichir

I don't plan on keeping the tinfoil barb. Didn't realize he was a schooler. Don't really agree that it will be overstocked that is irrelevant and at least a year and a half away.

Another question - what is the growth rate on these guys specifically the ornate.

My experience with ornates was about 1 inch per month til 12 inches then it slowed but it depends on the personality some are greedier fish than others. I have personally seen a 20 inch ornate

I personally have a 20 inch ornate. Or did till last week any. They grow quick and get chunky. It'd outgrow a 60 gal in a matter of months if cared for properly

As for active ness my most active is my del and while he has grown quick he has slowed quite a bit since he reached 9 inches. Active feeder and doesn't bother other fish or get bothered by them.

Delhezi was my 2nd choice behind the ornate, probably much more manageable size too.

Ended up purchasing a 3 inch delhezi. Eating bloodworms and looks good. Was about to buy one only and the lfs had one!
