with the royal knife .. and 2 O's and 2 red hooks ... i can do some stuff to make plenty of hiding spots .. just want to make sure im not going to loose any fish ..

i think you should be fine as long as there hiding places

I have a 4-5" O in with my 3 fires and he gets sassy on occasion. may come a point when I have to seperate. I took all the slate out of my tank because my eel was getting scuff marks, slate gone no scuff marks. I use pvc tubes and driftwood, doesn't look the greatest but have no issues w/ the eels getting rub marks. I'de go all driftwood if I was worried about appearances.

Pleco may pose a problem as they are territorial particularly with other bottom dwelelrs. and commons are notorious slime coat eaters. If it's generally pretty docile, I'de give it a try. If it's aggresive get rid of it or don't get an eel imo.

don't know how redhooks are, so that one i couldn't wager.

I'de also put a divider in the first week, so the eel can settle in w/out being harassed as they seem to be most delicate that first week, and don't pull the divider until it is eating solidly. I've lost a few the first week or 2 I've had them from stress so I'de avoid any chances and let it settle in that way.

my eels are in w/ 3 neolampus brichardi, the baby O, a needlenose fish. Odd combo I know and it's a temporary thing. But goes ot show you never know what can be kept together until you try. they've all been living togetehr contently for almost 3 monthes. The eels where introd first.

If the pleco is a potential issue You may want to look into the Royal pleco as a better tankmate. check the pleco forum but they are almost strictly herbevoir and have a reputation for being safe tankmates for bottom dwellers.

Your royal clown may also be your biggest potential issue and attempt to eat the eel. depending size and true aggresion. if it's pointed just at the O or if it's generally just that aggresive.

fire eels don't seem to bother other fish much, particulalry larger ones, and I've only seen aggression towards eachother in my own tanks. If you think your fish will attack it, I wouldn't do it. But if you think they will let it mind it's own business. You shouldn't have a problem.

i think if you find a larger eel already eating good, and you have plenty of hiding spots you will be fine. fire eels are pretty elusive and will find small caves to hide from aggression, but you must make sure it is getting its share of food
