I know in mammals this will have harmful effects on the young but I was wondering if this was the case with fish. Will a male and female fish from the same parents breed? Will there be genetic mutations or other health complications with the fry?

I wanted to try and pair some fish but wasn't sure if it will work since I believe they are from the same "batch" and share parents.

Thanks much!
Andrew

the answer is yes.
and if you choose to select certain color or shape, then it is called selective breeding.
you are able to inbreed for couple generations, but you would need to cross breed down the generation.
most likely for the f0 (first breeding generation) would not have genetic defects.
especially for fish their batch is large so that there are many genetic make-ups for one time of batch, therefore less likely to have genetic defects.
however, if you do it for mamals the chances of genetic defects are higher for small quantity of batch at a time.
I hope that helps.

yes
and i have convict paired for the 4th generation from the same parent

I have heard that if you breed females with their father you will get better color, not sure if this is true but several people have said this...

yes.

first generation inbreeding is fine. There are not many defects if any. and if there are they dont make it but the other couple hundred that are fine do live lol. so it is fine for first generations to breeed anything past that gets risky, and should no tbe done in my opinion.

you betcha they will breed
