will a metal zipper hurt my sump?

I recently bought some lingerie bags to hold my bio media. i noticed they have metal zippers on them that are painted white. Is it safe to put these in my tank, or should i remove the zippers?

No but it would hurt the fish. You don't want any metal to come into contact with your aquarium water. I suggust using zip ties, tie up the bio media tightly and use a pair of scissor to remove the excess piece of lingerie bag along with the metal zipper. Thats how I do for my media in my canister.

I second the zip ties.
Stones can affect pH, just like certain types of driftwood can as well.
I would think that metal can affect chemistry as well, painted or not.

Just be on the safe side and do zips.
