I plan on getting a juvenile pike cichlid and putting him in my 45 with my 2 oscars, and green terror. (all juvenile) It says in my signerature I have a JD but I got rid of him because he wouldn't leave my GT alone. I am going to get a 90 and plan on moving them around christmas. Do you think I should put a pike in and if so which one? Thanks

P.S. Do any of you know where to get them online since none of the pet stores near me have them.

Why don't you just change your sig then? Its not hard.

It may work, but you will have a lot of work keeping the 90 clean with 2 adult oscars and other cichlids.

^^ I agree. A pike would work, it's not really a question of compatibility as it is maintenance. It depends on what tank you want it to spend the rest of it's life in. If you want to keep it in the 90, stay away from lugubris group pikes. I would go with something from the saxtiline group. They don't get as big.

I agree with Hawk. As far as keeping the tank clean just use a filter that is rated for more than the tank size. Overfiltration never hurts especially with oscars. My 265 had a fluval 304, two fluval 404s, a magnum 350 that I rigged up as a prefilter to a 60 gallon sump and a tetratech 350 just cause it was laying around.

yeah I have an eheim 2217 in right now. I diatom every two weeks, clean the glass once a week, do a 15% water change with a gravel vac every week and my dad makes me keep the tank spotless

Yeah water quality is very important. The water can be clear but not clean. Test kits come in handy for that.

Absolutely, just because you don't see a mess of algae and detritus, doesn't mean that your NH3 and Nitrite and Nitrate isn't way out of whack. Go to a 50% weekly WC schedule and over filter the hell out of the tank.

Honestly though, I really don't think it's a good idea to keep even the smallest of pikes with two oscars in a 90. Oscars are just way too messy of a fish.

wayyyyy to many fish for a 90! maybe a 180. but definately not a 90. a 90 would suit your two oscars, assuming they are male and female. other wise they will destroy each other when full grown.
