hello, i am wondering if a senegal bichir will escape my 55 gallon, both of the flip top lids on the front of the tank are both broken (latches are both broken), there are 2 holes on the top of the tank for the heater and the marineland penguin 550 that are 2 inches long that are open, and the 2 rectangle shaped holes for the 2 aquatech 30-60 filters are both 16 inches long X 1.5 inches wide, thanks

It's likely.
Just seal any holes up with tape, silicone or whatever and you should be OK.

thanks, do i just need to seal up the 2 inch heater and marineland penguin 550 holes? because i can't seal up the spaces with the 2 aqua tech 30-60 filters, and do i need to do anything about the front flip up lids? i was thinking about sealing the 2 heater holes with a square piece of plastic (like the plastic ice cream pails are made out of)

Seal all holes dude, its just not worth the risk.

i was wondering the same thing b/c i just got mine a couple weeks ago. good idea on the ice cream buckets tho! kinda ironic b/c my flip-top lids on my 55 r both broken 2 hahaha! would u guys seal up the airline inserts too? n is it best to leave the water level down a little also?

if it can fit itll get through found mine on the floor in my fish room dont know how long it was there but I manage to save it

on my 55g I keep the water level lower, also there is a ~inch lip around the top of the tank, I doubt any bichir could get up above the 4 inch water level , and around the lip.

Whenever you get the money, you should look towards getting a new top from your LFS, & it doesn't have to be new, it can be a used top. I'm sure if you called or went to your LFS they would have a used top for your 55, if not maybe they can get one in? It will save you all the wasted time sealing up the holes, putting stuff on top of the lid, lowering your water level, etc...and I bet the used tops for a 55 don't cost much, probably 30-60 bucks?
