I bought this silver arowana yesterday, he ate freeze-dried bloodworms within 20 minutes after he got here! Anyway, He has no barbels. The man at the ldfs who sold him to me said that sometimes their barbels get bitten off by the others on accident at feeding time. He said they would grow back. Is this true?

They should.

It can take a long time though.

If it's broken at the base sometimes it won't but keep ya fingers crossed it probably would. However, expect it not to be as straight or as long as before. Could take a few months depending on the age of the aro since juv. ones recover faster then adults.

You could stimulate the growth by pricking the base of the barbels with a surgical needle. These could be a pain depending on the size of the aro. If he is a big boy you can quiet him down with some clove oil.

You finally did it! I'm so happy for you, Lockness Monster, you earned it man.

Try using Melafix as per instructions on bottle, be sure you have removed any filters with charcoal before using it. It'll grow slowly. If he gets dinged up, remember to up the temp. in the tank, add a little salt (freshwater instructions- 1 tbsp salt per every 5 gallons of water.)

Be sure your top is really secure, and there's no-where for the Aro to jump out, even small holes.

also depends on the aro's personality. If it likes to rub its face on the glass, it may take a really long time to grow out the barbel. Another thing is that the barbel might not grow out as long as the original.

There is a chance it will grow back. If the barbels are broken off to far down it will never grow back. If it is broken farther from the base it will grow back, maybe not straight. But it will grow back.
Just wondering whey you picked the one with the broken barbels.
