My 150 currently has a male and femal convict, a jag, a carpintis, a JD, and stalsbergi. The stalsbergi chases everything into hiding most the time. When it isnt, the Cons chase everything into hiding. The Jag always chases the carpintis into hiding. The result is, I only ever see the Stals and cons. Occasionaly I see the Jag and JD. Would adding more of something lower the agro or should I consider selling some of these fish? I love all of them, but I want to be able to enjoy watching them too. I have recently redesigned the tank, so I dont want to do that again.

For starters, you should remove the convicts. Once they start making babies, everything in your tank is game for being attacked. Maybe remove some of the others as well. One things for sure though, getting more fish will NOT help with lowering the aggression levels.

No adding more won't reduce aggression, I have tried it and things only get worse.

What sometimes does work is adding convicts when you have some big cichlids that are fighting, but in your situation the cons are the troublemakers.

I wouldn't worry about the Jag, you will see him more often when he grows and gets tougher. But I would watch out for the Jaguar his aggression towards the Carpinte.

I've personally seen overstocked tanks of large CA/SA, aggressive cichlids. The ones I've seen work because no single fish can focus on another one. There are just too many other fish around for any aggression to be a problem. It basically leaves only enough room and space for swimming and eating. Sometimes overstocked tanks have no decor either so territories can't be established. You'll also have to have very good filtration and perform many more water changes than normal. So it can be done, but I don't like it. Overstocked tanks look forced and cruel to me.

I will remove the Cons. It will be tough to catch them though haha.

I hope I can find a group that is comfortable. Everyone hiding is making me sad =(

It doesnt lower aggression it spreads the aggression around which is the desired effect in some situations however it rarely results in optimum conditions for tank inhabitants

You could get rid of the Cons and try adding 5 silver dollars as dither. The Jag should become more confident as it grows and the ranking in the tank will change, so the dynamic of the tank will go thru some changes as they all grow.

adding more will only fuel that fire, maybe some dither fish could help, but more cichlids would be disasterous
