Hello; Back when I started becoming aware as a toddler (dont know what age) somewhere I got to see cartoons. By the time I was 6 YO, (1953) We had a basic B&W TV. Only got one channel. For most of the rest of my life I immediately knew when something was fake. Now the stuff is able to fool me.
There is an add on ROKU for a streaming platform called FRNDLY (sp). The ad fooled me for many days untill I noticed the small print about being AI.
I think the AI generator may have used the comedian's (Jamie Litthow) (sp) mouth.
So what AI is good for it seems to be very good. However, a car dealer in Lexington KY seems to have started using an AI voice. It has been sending me messages for a few weeks now. I did call back once and talked to it. So far it is the dumbest smart AI I have so far used. Took the thing several tries to understand I am only interested in a Mustang with a manual trans.
To the question. Much will depend on the start -up & operating costs. I see on TV how the data centers use huge amounts of power to operate. I imagine the computer setups also cost a lot. This is only for pushing around electrons. I do not know what a robot may cost to build. I think an overly built & complex machine which does only a simple task is called a Rube Goldberg machine. Will a big computer in an expensive power-hungry complex be cheaper than hiring a real person?? I do not know.
I refer again to new vehicles. To me, most of the electronic gadgetry is worthless. I think there will be an appetite for such loaded vehicles for some years. Then they will become aged and close to impossible to get fixed or cost way too much. Eventually sensible folks will find a basic & reliable car is worth more than the shinny gadgets. That said maybe someone will make a vehicle which never breaks down.
I doubt it. My college student neighbor ruined the engine of her SUV. Ran it low of oil. I offered to check the engine out to see if there is any hope. turns out the timing chain has tensioners which use oil pressure. I pulled the rocker arm cover this morning. Found evidence that a piston has hit a valve. Timing chain is slack with one of the guides broken. Is one of the newer engines i have worked on. Had some clever engineering which took me some time to understand. Variable cam timing electric solenoids and valves. Found dirty oil in those valves.
I came away with one notion for sure. No 5000 to 10,000 miles oil change intervals for me. It will remain 3,000 miles or one year. These new cars live on fresh CLEAN oil especially with turbos, long timing chains & cam phasers.
