I'll the sand from my tank, and wondered if the bottom glass will grow algea on it no and wondered as well if I leave it without touching it will it grow long enough to look like a "natural state" also if it does grow and get long and hairy like is it harmful to anything inside the tank ? No live plants ... Just a aro, rtc, pbass, gold severum, florida gar... Not like anyone in the tank will eat it nor do I care I only clean the veiwing panels on the tank anyway

Algae is like a plant, depending on the type it will consume excess nutrients even nitrates. The only algae you want to grow is green algae, looks natural too! I grew some on an old nerite snail shell: uploadfromtaptalk1392244381087.jpg

Well in a healthy cycled aquarium green hair algae is the most common! If your water is nasty then your likely to experience other types. But if its a planted tank the lighting/nutrient balance will alter these basic principles. Make sure your tank is cycled, keep the glass clean and have relatively decent lighting!

Its also hellpful to keep your water circulating strongly. Ive noticed brown algae (not harmful but quite ugly) likes slower water, I think it settles and grows more easily when the flow is low. Sounds like your tank is good to go though

Tank does have a lot of water movement tho so hopefully I will only get green algea then haha and hopefully it starts getting hairy after a few months

Nothing wrong with algae. Most people don't like it cause it makes the tank look dirty and messy. When your gravel and plants and glass are covered it doesn't look good to us. All your natural biotops have hair and string algae everywhere sometimes even green water. But in our tanks we think this looks unhealthy and want clean pristine looking tanks.

I just think it would look cool as heck to have algea on the bare glass bottom of my tank to the point were it looks like grass or something on the bottom you know almost like a "beard algae" :D ...give it a almost natural look on the bottom and very super easy to clean if ever needed no more sand for this guy lol
