It's only for a 40 gal breeder, but any pointers before i start out would be fantastic. it will be a pretty standard crate design, using 2x4's. It's a glass tank so it will only be supported around the bottom edges.
Things i'm curious about are- lateral support (are horizontal planks enough?) and coloring options. I would like it to be pretty much black, or black with the woodgrain still visible. Since i can't sand it down or paint it in my small apartment, i will also need to design it so it can be easily put together/taken apart into several pieces. would bolts and nuts be the best option for that?
if anyone can share links to stand builds that would be cool too. tia.

what tools do you have at your disposal? for a 40 breeder i assume its fw you will have like 380 pounds so you dont need much i like to test my stands by getting a couple guys and sitting on them before i put the tank on them i had over 400 pounds of people on a stand i made of 1x2s for my 10 gallon tank.

Good idea with the plywood. Except i wanted to make an open style stand where you can see through it or whatever. i have a small apartment like i said so a covered design would make my place look crowded.

as far as tools go, i have a power drill, hacksaw, buncha drill bits and hole saws, standard assortment of screwdrivers/hex/socket/monkey wrenches/etc but i'm under the impression that the hardware store where i get the wood will cut it to spec for me for free if not a nominal fee.
