Will Be Roasting A Pig...Have A Question

The pig (live) will be prepared the night before. We're planning to put it in a cooler filled with ice instead of freezer then roast it the next day the traditional way. We figured this way we don't have to thaw it. Is it ok? Just worried about bacteria buildup.
 
Yes, you're right. But the pig is free and my friends volunteered to help. More of a get together.
 
sounds like fun, if it's small enough to fit in a cooler, can't you fit it in the fridge? or cut it in two or four halves to fit in the fridge?

or you guys planning to do it whole?

if you're gonna do it whole, why not kill the pig and prep it early in the morning the day of the feast? that's what i would do.

but if you are gonna prep it the night before, i'd say you should be fine with the ice.
 
btw, have you killed and gutted a pig before? i saw it done once, it was an awesome sight to see

Me, I cant gut pigs because the last time I gutted a pig there were worms in its stomach. I have a phobia or worms :D

I think it will be fine in the cooler with ice.
 
This was going pretty well untill Mr.Bombastico mentioned stomach worms.:ROFL:The pig should be fine though if it fits in the ice chest.We had a roasted pig on the job once and that was some good meat.

Yes, it will fit in the cooler and it will be roasted whole. Can't do everything on the same day coz of work. It will be fun, can't wait to see my buddies' hungry faces when the pig starts to turn red.
