Hi guys, as title asks; I'm going to get a female for my male GT at some point. He's about 2-3 inches just now, if I add a similar sized female and they get down to breeding, will he still reach the same size potential?

Will be a pair in a 90 gallon.

Thanks

Yes it won't matter he'll still grow to maximum size
will like to see the pics when he gets his girlfriend lol
but yeah, breeding won't interfere (my own personal experience)(my gt male had him from a baby and he breeder since got himself a misses quite young and he's 8in now)
Goodluck with the breeding :)

I find the males growth is not slowed by breeding, but energy used by females in egg production and fry rearing seems to slow their growth a bit.
An example would be these 2 exact same age festae.
Agree. It's usually only females who's growth is slowed as a result of breeding. Egg production and fasting require enormous energy stores, therefore reducing female rate of growth.

Constant breeding will slow down growth in both sex and specially the female because the resource to make eggs is greater than sperms. I have kept both single sex GT and breeding pair GT in separate tanks, the single sex GT always grow faster and bigger. I have also anecdotal evidence that if you allow a pair to breed constantly, it will shorten their life span as if once all reserved eggs and sperms are exhausted, the clock runs out.

if the female spawns but her body is in good health see will eat them to recoup what she lost, then she will go back into cycle.
