I was thinking about upgrading to nice LED lights. But with arowanas always swimming at the top, do I have to worry about it being too bright for them?

not saying that. but the leds are like inches away from the fish's face. the sun isn't. i've looked into LEDs before and i felt blinded. LOL

depending on the fish and light, some get skittish. no experience with aros, but cichlids and especially oiranhas have freaked out when i went with very bright leds. shouldnt need more than the 1w units unless you are growing plants. i know it wasnt a scientific test but with polarized oakleys i can stare at the sun. i tried with my 32w kessil... and saw a purple dot for an hour. yes LED can be more intense than the sun.

Stressed maybe(Depending in how long u plan to keep it on).. But sure as hell cant blind him.. The light hits the arowana's head from the top not directly into his eyes from the side..

Mount the LEDs further away from the surface and/or use a dimmer if possible. It might not blind the aro but intense lights like that aren't going to do it any favours.

You looked directly into LEDs, And if we look directly into sun our eyes will damage slowly. So don't wory aro's also have sun in thire natural habitat. Aro will not look directly into LED's.
