So last Sunday I bought a used FX5 right off someone else's healthy tank. It was short notice, so I didnt get to previously fill my 150g tank. So that day I filled the tank with hose water, and it was cold, probably close to 40 degrees F. I started heating it, but it took around 24 hours to reach 78 degrees. I also just hooked the FX5 right after adding water, so I was curious if the BB was demolished because of the cold water. On Thursday, I went to get some gold fish to help with the cycle, but ended up getting 4 adult angelfish because they were priced very well. Right before I introduced them, I added Tetra Safe Start (in refrigerator at LFS) to the tank, close to the filter intake. The angelfish look very healthy, eat and even show courtship signs. I know it has only been 3 days, but do you think it is safe to add other fish? I have alot of fish crammed into a 55g at my parents house, and they are starting to get white spots that go away everytime i do waterchanges(not ich) on their scales and eyes because its heavily overstocked. Do you think it is safe to move them to the 150g, if I dont do it tomorrow I have to wait until Weds for time reasons, and the 150g is at my bros house.

I agree with the above...

higher temps increase metabolism, lower temps decrease metabolism...

While bacteria is most likely not complex enough to actually have "metabolism", they still increase/decrease biological development in the same way via temperature changes...

Different forms of bacteria will have different max/min ranges for survival... but the ranges are quite large as bacteria is a very very persistent form of life...

I think you should be fine... I don't know this for fact, but I suspect that even if the water were to freeze it is likely the bacteria would go dormant as opposed to die... and then "come back to life" when the temps warmed back up...

I think you should be alright. Assuming you added your dechlorinator before firing up the FX5. Just test the water every day for a week or two and be ready to use prime or ammo lock if needed (doubt it will come to that)

Thanks for the replies. I did use prime when adding the water to the tank. That is good news, that means I can transfer the fish today! Thanks!
