Hi i have a question I've been wondering about for a while will aggressive cichlids attack bottom dwellers? I have a female jag who is aggressive towards my female acara and a male blue acara who is also very aggresive towards both fish and was wondering what if i out a bottom dweller in? I would like to get a bichir clown loach and catfish. (not all those are just what im considering, bichirs are winning atm) Now would i have to grow them out first or can i just put them in? I have a 70 gallon that they'll all be in so what if i put in a 3-4" bichir (a baby bichir so like pencile thickness) with the +4" fish would they kill him? I had two clown loachs before maybe 2" one got eaten (he was brandnew) and the other was in for months (died of ich when i had introduced other fish) Sorry if im rambling now but i pretty much justwant to know will they attack small bottom dwellers and should i grow them out or just hope for the best

In my experience, no. Cichlids are only a threat to other Cichlids and small fish that can be eaten. If kept in a tank that is big enough with acceptable water quality and enough food, they rarely bother scavengers/bottom dwellers like catfish or clown loaches. Also, both catfish and clown loaches are perfectly capable of defending themselves.

Breeding cichlids will attack anything though.
