I set up a tank next to my bed. It didn't have a filter on for a few days. Voilà! Now I have a tank in my bedroom FULL of mosquito larvae!

There's no live stock in there except for pest snails. Will a GOOD squirt of Seachem Cupramine kill mosquito larvae? Snails dying will also be a benefit before I bother even trying to cycle it to get ready for live stock.

Why not just empty the tank and then set it up when its ready to be cycled and stocked?

As far as using copper, i guess the one reason i stay well away from anything with copper in it is because i keep shrimps and stuff, and copper is a sure fire way to kill all the inverts, add to that, that the copper could remain in the tank for a while, meaning you may never be able to safely keep inverts in there if you change your mind...

The tank is set up with hardscape and everything, so I'm not going to take it down. The filter will be here in a couple of days so why bother.

I simply want to know if Cupramine will kill mosquito larvae.

I understand it's toxicity to most inverts but mosquito larvae don't have gills so I don't know if it will affect them differently.

Call your mosquito and vector control. They might be able to give you free mosquito fish. Thats what I did when I had a mosquito problem in my pond. I called them and they delivered the next day. The guy had a 5 gallon bucket that contained 100+ mosquito fish and just poured them into my pond. In my county mosquito fish are free. But, in your situation just use a brine shrimp net and try to catch them.

studd, what happened to the fish? they are yours to keep, no questions asked? are they still in your pond?

ARE YOU SERIOUS! In Australia they're a noxious species with big fines for even having them in your possesion :P They were introduced into Australia to eat mosquito's but apparently our native fish do a WAY better job. Alas, it was too late and now the pests are everywhere!

Yep they are mine to keep and they are still in my pond. No questions asked also. They even told me if I wasnt home, for me to leave a bucket outside by the door so they could dump it in there lol.
