Just wondering if its a good idea to keep crayfishes with silver arowanas. The crayfish are a good size and will not get eaten by the arowana. My main concern is whether or not this will cause my silver to develop drop eye.

DE is one of the most discussed topics on silver aros.. everyone has their reasons and cures for DE.. i believe the primary reason is head trauma.. jumping.. hitting tank tops etc.. as far as a cure goes ping pong balls etc are also assumptions.. now i could say my silvers seem much better after i moved them to the pond from the glass tanks.. it does seem so to me but again you never know.. probably its still there and cos i look at it from the top i can't make out.. do search on the forum for drop eye and you will get loads of threads with discussions on the same nature.. and as far as your question goes.. i doubt it that the crayfish would be the main reason for DE..

NO! Aro won't get drop eye(s) by having crayfish or any bottom fish in the tank. It is a genetic factor. Pingpong ball won't help as the aro doesn't pay attention to it short time after introduction to the tank. There is no cure for DE, unless you want to do some major surgery.

Although it's not true that all silvers get DE, the majority do, so chances are, yours will at some point. But on the bright side, the addition of crayfish to the tank isn't going to have any effect on that.
