Thinking of using daphnia to get rid of my outdoor tank green water problem... Experimented and they do great in a bottle.. So now I'm thinking of putting daphnia into my green water infected tank... But my fish won't eat daphnia as they are 5" and above.. My red blood parrot would maybe eat but it can't possibly eat a lot of them... So I'm thinking will daphnia harm my 13" arowana, 6" gold severum, oscar, pacu and 9" RTC?

Thanks

Yeah I didn't notice I failed to mention half of the reply. Unless the culture is pure daphnia, it can be a threat to fish fry only. If there are predator oorganisms in the water they will eat the fry. I learned that when I was much greener and didn't think enough to at least look at the water.

Oh, wow. I wish there was a way to catch all the threads! I could have easily answered this the moment it was asked!

You'll want to add a great amount of the daphnia right out of the gate. If they can be seen, they'll be eaten! Also, I wouldn't expect them to be a permanent solution but a great start to your green water elimination. If you've resorted to daphnia then I take it you've already taken the usual measures ( stop feeding, reduce lighting, etc.) without success?

Oh! Outdoor! You might just end up with a green water and daphnia soup. Best of luck still!

Daphnia in the Innes book days when the hobby was in its infancy was the main food for tropical fish. Pick up a copy of the old Innes book and see how many times the word daphnia is used. No they will not harm your fish.
