Anythings possible. But more often then not, the big dats will not eat young dats. If you don't want to take the chance don't do it. Anything thats fits inside a dats mouth is fair game, along with all other predators.
 
It rarely has happened. Can get caught in the cross fire during feeding. But many do keep this combo. I wouldn't put 12 incher plus with 1 inch babies. 2 to 3 inch should be safe. It's worked for me. You could put a divider in .....
But if your really worried, then suppose don't risk it .

Today one of my smaller dats (around 1") was swimming around with an entire krill hanging out of its mouth. It got close to one of my larger dats (around 4") and the larger dat attacked the krill and the smaller dat barely escaped with its head attached. So I think it could definitely happen, especially when feeding them.
