I am considering adding a dat to my tank and am curious if anyone has kept them with a silver aro or mismanages? Can they fend for themselves in other words? Are there any other New World Cichlids not recommended with dats?

I have a Dat and silver's together and they work fine..

Based on experience, the managuense will eventually kick all your other fishes' behind. They are too territorial and size usually matter when it comes to agrresiveness but my experience has proven me wrong.

U should b fine as long as they r around the same size.
Don't forget the aro grows a lot faster than the dat, and the aro will try to eat the dat if it can fit into it's mouth

i wouldn't chance it but others have done it,if your talking about hundreds of gallons then you have more chance,i've had an oscar nearly kill a similar sized dat and the dat was there first !

depends on the temperment of the jag. i've had some that were just fine with just about any tankmates. the dat has to be a good size, too since they grow much more slowly than jags and aros. i have another parachromis sp. in with my dats right now and it works out great (loisellei)
