I got a 55g with 1 red devil, 1 jack dempsey, 1 texas cichlid and 1 green terror. So far, nobody fights. I know the GT and the JD are males, the other 2 I am not sure. I would like to know if having them in a tank this size restrict their growth.

If they were in, lets say, a 125g tank, would they grow faster or at the same pace? I plan on buying the 125g within a couple of months so I can out simillar size cichlids together and also add more fish.

I will add a couple of more fish when I get he bigger tank. The red devil surprisingly does not beat up the other fishes. It has led me to believe it is a female. I feed them turtle food. It is a medley of crickets, meal worms and shrimp. I also feed them blood worms and Hikari cichlid gold pellets. I am trying to make them grow as fast as possible. Colors are already looking spectacular! Thanks for the reply!

I am also guilty of overfeeding... I had never tried the turtle food but it is the same thing I buy frozen, except it is dry. I am going to try and post more pics right now. Check my profile if you would like.

If you add any more fish you really risk overstocking that 125g. In fact, it probably won't accomodate a full-grown RD, Texas, JD, and GT anyway. I think you're unfortunately going to end up with one or two really aggressive individuals who hurt or kill the others.

The bigger tank should be a bit more forgiving it is when come to water quality parameters etc. Growth rate between those two tank sizes should be the same if you keep up the water changes on the 55g.

Careful now, it is better to underfeed that to overfeed. You'd be suprised at how little food it takes to keep cichlids growing and healthy.

I scoop the poop then siphon once a week. These guys are messy eaters. I also change about 10 gallons or so of water each week.
